Kickstart your writing with Jessica Duchen

Jessica Duchen

“When my first novel was published in 2006, I discovered that almost every other person I met would say to me, “I’ve always wanted to write, BUT…” Knowing the personal satisfaction that one derives from creative writing, I decided to devise a course to help writing enthusiasts of all levels to get started, or restarted.

In a small group setting (places on the course are limited to 6 people), we explore ways into writing through discussions, exercises/games and practical pointers.

The course kicks off on the Friday evening with a public performance of Hungarian Dances in the wonderful, intimate surroundings of the recording studio at Potton Hall.  Hungarian Dances is a dazzling journey in words and music through the story of the bestselling novel of the same name by Jessica Duchen.  She will joined by the virtuoso violinist Bradley Creswick and the award-winning pianist Margaret Fingerhut for this exciting start to the weekend.

Then, on the Saturday, we explore a variety of writing stimuli, with a look at what makes us want to write and what stops us; on the second we look at the practicalities of building a story and its characters. There’s no need to bring any previous writing with you: all writing is done in the class (and you can choose whether or not you want to share your work with us). I aim to send you home with fresh enthusiasm and ideas – and no more excuses for not pursuing them. Some former students have gone on to try their hands at short stories, entire novels and some excellent blogs.” ~ Jessica Duchen
